Drake’s London launched their new autumn winter collection 2015 – it’s available now. It has been heartening to see they used an older male model for the promotional shots. Well at least the model looks older than the norm – he might not be that old or feel old; it’s all relative – but either way it’s a good thing.
Drake’s was founded by Michael Drake in 1977, initially selling quality scarves made and designed in England. They quickly started to make ties and pocket squares which is what they’re renown for today. I like Drake’s sensibilities, “part English with a mix of French chic with an Italian sense of colour and style”. They’re no longer owned by Michael Drake; however their ties continue to be made in London, and they offer a wide range of clothes for the more discerning man including jackets, coats, knitwear, sock and shoes.
I noticed that the jackets for the new season are 3 roll 2 closure which is where the lapels of a 3 button jacket roll down to the middle button, so hiding the top button so that the jacket appears to be a two button jacket. Which for me this a traditional ivy league look.
The jacket (above) is Drake’s single breasted gun club, brown, camel and cream wool jacket – 100% wool made in Italy with side vents and a 3 roll 2 closure.
Drake’s Harris Tweed herringbone jacket is also 3 roll 2 closure , with side vents and notch lapels. Also made in Italy.
The last piece is a dark olive pea coat. Slightly longer in length than a more traditional pea coat, the Drake’s version is 100% wool, made in Scotland and also available in navy. In the picture below it’s nicely layered together with a check jacket, a lambs wool grey sleeveless cardigan, a ready-to-wear blue button down collar shirt and cashmere beanie hat.
All available at Drake’s London online shop.
